I understand that both platforms are younger than Mac and iOS (for iA) and I kind of admire the Its-done-when-its-done-philosophy of iA. For italics, you end up with *words I want to be italicized.* So when I go to edit a document later, I have to make adjustments for things like that. One thing I don't like about iA Writer is that italics and bold words don't show up that way. It's simply a program I can open and start writing. There aren't a bunch of flashy features or confusing toolbars. I get to watch the page scroll up like a typewriter would, and I really do feel more focused when I use that mode. Sometimes it's good to have something different than the standard white background when you want to create! Focus mode with typewriter adds an element of fun to my writing sessions. I think the different colors and font shift my mind into a "we're writing now" mode. These really help me get into the zone and write. My favorite things about iA Writer are the black background with white text and typewriter mode.
